Listen in as Anne Miller talks about the power of using metaphors in writing, speaking, publicity, and branding.
Here are a few of Anne’s book marketing tips based on her experience with promoting Metaphorically Selling.
She created The Metaphor Minute newsletter based on her book to build her audience.
She connected with bloggers and websites, influencers in the field of communications, sales training, and related areas. She asked for reviews, interviews, articles, guest posts, etc.
She reached out to professional organizations to speak for them at conferences. And she wrote follow-up articles for the associations where she spoke. She sold 200 copies to Pearson Education for just one talk.
She looked for opportunities for news hooks. Example: she used Obama’s State of the Union message to talk about the power of metaphors.
The Power of Metaphors
A metaphor is a story in miniature. Metaphors include analogies, similes, stories, illustrations, and cartoons.
You can be the blue whale lady or the train wreck person or the Queen of Mean.
Use metaphors in your book titles, blog post titles, headlines, and more. Examples: Chicken Soup for the Soul; Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus; the Dummies series; and Future Shock.
Brand your concepts or ideas with metaphors. Examples: The Oreo Doctrine and The Peanut Butter Memo.
