Book Signings: Book Promotion
Question:
I would like to know how I can specifically promote my book signing this May in Detroit, Michigan. Besides the usual radio, newspapers, and TV press releases as well as mailers to high schools, boys & girls clubs, and churches. Thanks again for your time and great advice!
John’s Answer:
You’ve covered the most important bases. But here are a few more suggestions:
- Poster the local area a few days or weeks before your talk. If you can’t make it early to Detroit, then ask for some help from a local girls’ club, school club, or church group.
- Schedule a meetup or tweetup in Detroit for the day before your book signing. Involve your social networks in bringing people out to the event.
- Blog about your event several times before the day of the event. And then tweet about your event five to ten times in the days leading up to the event (including the day of the event).
- Tweet from the event itself. Encourage the audience to tweet the event as well. If you have some great sound bites, stop your talk long enough to repeat the sound bit and encourage the audience members to tweet your words to their audience.
- Be sure to promote your event NOT as a book signing, but as a talk where you’ll present some great tips related to your book.
Of course, there are endless possibilities, but these should keep you busy until your event.
